Ski jumping
Did you ever dream of skiing without poles? Do you ever wish you could fly like an eagle? Well you might want to try ski jumping, it might be the sport for YOU!! Athlete's take off like jets on runways. Once they takeoff, you let your long skis hang from the tips of your toes while you bend over.
Before you go ski jumping you need equipment. The first thing you need is the jumping suit. You need the jumping suit because it will keep you warm. The next thing you need are the skis because you can't go ski jumping without them. Then, you need boots because the boots have buckles that will keep the skis on. On the boots there is the connection cord that keeps the boots attached to the skis. After you have all the equipment on, its time for the jump. The skiers ski down a steep ramp that curves up at the end. The curve at the end helps the skiers take off. The skiers are trying to go as far down the hill in the air as they can. All these things have names, the Inrun is when the person gets in a position to take off. The Take Off is where you leave the ground. Next, is the landing. The K Point determines the amount of distance points awarded to the jump. Each athlete gets two jumps. Their score is based on how far they jump and their form in the air.
There are three hills in ski jumping. They are the Individual normal hill, Individual large hill, and Team large hill. Ski Jumping is also a part of the Nordic Combined ski competition.
Don't ever try to jump at home because you can get seriously injured. But it sure sounds like fun!

Have you ever dreamed of skateboarding without wheels? Well, that is what snowboarding is. Snowboarding was invented in the United States in the 1960's. It is a combination of skate boarding and skiing put together. Snowboarders do lots of tricks in the air. There are four snowboarding events, men's halfpipe, women's halfpipe, men's parallel giant slalom and women's parallel giant slalom.
In the half pipe the snowboarders use a course that is the shape of a half cylinder. It is dug out about 16 feet in ground. The snowboarders pick up speed and when they get to the top they do a trick above the rim. Then they head back down and up the other side and do another trick. The winner is the snowboarder who had the best form and the hardest tricks. There are five judges in each round on the half pipe. If there is a tie between two athletes, the judges go back to the last round. If it's still a tie, the winner is the person that impresses the judges the most.
In snowboarding, talent isn't all that matters. The snowboarder controls most of the speeds and turns, but the snowboard and other equipment matters too. In half pipe snowboards are wide and flexible, boots are soft, and racers wear helmets. In parallel giant slalom snowboards are narrow, stiff, and longer that in half pipe, boots are hard and racers wear helmets.
The top six men and top six women in each of the two runs advance to the finals. In the finals, each of the finalists does two runs and the top score wins!

Speed skating
Lace up your skates, pull up your skin tight hood and head for the start line. Speed skaters use on an oval track that has a circumference of 400 meters (1312 feet.) The track is divided into two lanes so that two skaters race at one time. The skaters switch once during each lap because the outside lane is longer than the inside lane. While figure skating is about being beautiful on the ice, speed skating is about being fast! Speed skaters lean forward to help them go faster. They wear skates with long flat blades and they wear special suits that fit their body tightly. Sometimes they use one arm or both to help them pick up speed.
